How To Join
If you would like to join please come along to one of our meetings, or contact one of the committee members by email which can be found on the contact form.
The current membership fee for one year is £65.00, (Club Fee £47.00, AWGB Fee £18.00). This is Reviewed each year at the AGM.
Learn To Turn
As well as laying on a series of demonstrations and other events to instruct and entertain our members, we run what is called a Foundation Course which is based on the one which the AWGB runs. Click here for more details. As well as this, we usually run a full day hands-on master class with a professional turner. As if that is not enough, we also have a mentor scheme where you can develop your skills at your own pace with the help of an experienced turner.
The club has a range of books, videos and DVDs on woodturning. These will be displayed on some club nights so that you can browse through them. Some club members also offer their own books and DVDs that members may borrow. A list of club and member’s media that is available can be found here. The loan period is up to two months. All that we ask is for 50p that will go towards purchasing more media for our club library.
A small amount of woodturning sundries is held by the club. In addition to this, the club has an account with Axminster where we can purchase woodturning items at a good discount if ordered through the club and a local clothing outlet, items for sale by the club will be displayed at the club meetings and items can be purchased or ordered (where appropriate) at those events.
Each year we try to organise at least two visits to suppliers and events. The Yandles Shows; a large woodturning biased trade show, are included in our programme. Most members attend on the Friday. Other events may include a visit to Axminster where we can see their manufacturing, distribution & training facilities, a visit to a local timber yard where we can see timber being prepared and have an opportunity to purchase timber at good prices.
Each year we try to arrange two or three shows where we demonstrate woodturning and sell our work. Last year, we attended the Boscastle Festival in October and the Wadebridge Christmas weekend in December.
Each year, the club sponsors a local charity. At the shows we attend, we sell turned items that have been donated by club members. There are sometimes other opportunities that we take to raise funds for our charity.
Each month (apart from December) we hold a competition of items turned to a specific topic. Junior members have their own category. All members are entitled to vote on their favorite entries. Success in the monthly competitions also counts towards the trophy awarded annually to the “Turner of the Year”, usually presented at the A.G.M.
If you shop on line, many suppliers are registered with Easy Fundraising so if you go to their web site via the link on our web site, select the shop you want to go to, you can shop at no extra cost to you but the shop makes a donation to our club. Every penny we receive this way is invested in our club. Click here for more information.
